As winter's chill envelops much of Europe, the city of Nice bursts into a riot of colour, music and festivity with its annual Carnival, a tradition that has evolved over centuries into one of the world's most celebrated events. The 2025 edition held from the 15th February to the 2nd March, themed King of the Oceans, not only honoured the city's deep connection to the sea but also showcased its commitment to environmental sustainability.

The origins of the Nice Carnival trace back to 1294, making it one of the oldest carnivals in the world. Historical records mention the presence of joyful festivities during this period, laying the foundation for what would become a cornerstone of Niçoise culture. Over the centuries, these celebrations have transformed from spontaneous gatherings into organized spectacles, reflecting the city's rich history and evolving societal values.

In 1873, the Carnival took a significant leap forward with the establishment of the Committee of Festivities, which introduced structured parades and elaborate floats.
